In my years of mentoring, I have noticed that the majority of my clients are influenced by their inner child primarily when it comes to emotionally charged moments. Think about it for a moment.
When we are attached to an experience with strong emotions, our rational, responsive self is clouded by a state of drawing the situation up close and personal, that can create a child-like reaction. Can you think of a time when you reacted and thought to yourself, “Wow, that was childish, why did I react like that?“
I believe our inner child has a significant influence on our lives because it holds all our hurts, disappointments, anger, and sadness. Not everyone has experienced traumas or extreme circumstances, but we have all experienced disappointment, sadness, and some hurt. When we don’t process these old hurts, in emotionally charged situations, they subconsciously come to the surface, and we can become clouded. The challenge is being aware that this is happening.
Once you allow yourself to see the emotion for what it is, you are better able to process and release what no longer serves you. Getting to know, understand, and recognize your inner child is vital for self-growth. It is in this awareness that you release old wounds, old programming, and beliefs that affected you as a child and begin to embrace the present moments with a sense of newness and freedom.
