8 Tips to Live a Balanced, Positive Life
We all get stressed and overwhelmed and sometimes just being overwhelmed can be frustrating in itself. The challenge usually lies in the fact that we cannot control the things around us, so we tend to get frustrated and stressed out. When we feel out of control is when we allow the negative emotions to take over, we allow our minds to think and think and overthink every overwhelming situation and then we are completely out of control….who’s with me?
Trust me, it isn’t just you!
This isn’t rocket science, but it can be difficult for most…it involves conscious thinking and awareness. But, trust me when I say that even the most positive people have their off days, you just have to learn to balance the good with the not-so-good, and sometimes that can feel like rocket science.
Here are a few tips to help you throughout your day to hopefully balance things out.
1. Meditate:
There are many benefits to meditation. It is proven to reduce stress, improve concentration and can increase self-awareness. Meditation is also proven to decrease anxiety and depression.
Just simply start with a short 5 minute meditation, something to quiet the chatter. A simple yet very effective meditation is one where you sit quietly, relax and count your breaths in and out, if a thought enters your mind acknowledge it and then release it and let it go and return to your breathing….do this for 5 minutes can do wonders for your emotional well being.
When you think you don’t have time to meditate, that is when you need it the most!
2. Start your day with a positive thought.
Just simply saying ‘Thank You’ when you awake in the morning is something positive. You can also create positive affirmations like: ‘today is going to be a glorious day’, ‘today I will be in a great mood’, ‘I AM________ (you fill in the blank with something positive)
When you start your day off with happy, positive thoughts it will set the stage for the remainder of your day. When you wake up dreading the day, that also sets the stage, you are already in a bad mood…and there goes the rest of your day. But, you can turn that around by creating a change in the way you think first thing in the morning. above all be Grateful that you were given another glorious day.
3. Smile
Keep a smile on your face throughout your day. Smile at everyone you see. Not only will it keep you in good spirits it will lift everyone around you up. Smiles are contagious…spread those things everywhere.
4. Always be in an attitude of gratitude.
Even if your having an off day…be grateful! Be thankful for the challenges of the day, they are creating growth..you are learning something valuable. You may not see it right away….but the lesson is there. Be grateful for everything right down to the food that you eat and even a bill that has to be paid. The more grateful you are for everything the more you will be given to be grateful for.
Plus, being grateful brings Joy to the Soul and who doesn’t want more Joy in their Soul?!
5. Learn to Breathe.
We take breathing for granted, yes we all do it millions of times a day, but, did you know there a science to breathing the correct way. Breathing improperly can be messing up your sleep, mood, digestion among others.
How many times have you caught yourself holding your breath? You may be doing it unconsciously. Holding your breath does not allow the proper amount of oxygen to be absorbed and can reduce energy.
“The nose is for breathing, the mouth for eating.”
Your breath should go in and out through the nose. Your nose is like a filter (hint: that is what all those little hairs are for) When you breathe through your mouth you have nothing to filter the air and all the nastiness goes directly to your lungs.
As you breathe in, you should take all the air down to the belly…nice deep belly breaths.
Your breaths should be in rhythm.
Try it and see if you don’t feel better.
6. Take a walk in Nature.
Some of you may live in a big city and may not seem that easy to do, but, if you can try to find a place that is as close to nature as you can get.
If you have a park close by, on your lunch break, take your break there. Remove your shoes and put your feet in the grass, relax, look up at the sky, listen to the birds. Be one with what is around you. Being in nature is a big stress reliever.
7. Use empowering & uplifting words during the day
Use words that make you happy, words that make you smile. Words like Beautiful, Awesome, Amazing, Fantabulous, Fantastical, Beautimous…make up words like I do… I love to say fantastical and beautimous ( which is a cross between beautiful and fabulous )
Using words that are powerful and uplifting will keep you in a good mood.
8. If it doesn’t nourish & enrich your Soul let it go.
Too many times we find ourselves holding on to things that just bring us down….why? If it is gonna just bring you down why on earth would you want to think about it or focus on it. Release it and LET IT GO, stop allowing those things to keep you trapped. If you are having a difficult time letting go refer to tip #1…meditate.
Only allow your mind to think on things that lift you up and empower you…you are worth it!
These are just a few tips to help balance, they can all be used in combination during the day or a couple of them a day….either way the more you empower yourself with balance the more balanced your life will become.
